The Whitman Strategy Part Three is the concluding part of a three-part series which began back in 2020.
The opening gambit, "Closed Eyes", is a stark, ice-cold electro-pop song. Dialogue taken from a 1958 stage play is repurposed through a vocoder to provide an enchanting and mysterious lead vocal, over a sharp drum machine rhythm. Randomised synthesiser arpeggios rattle alongside the drums in a bizarre swing time that may or may not be in sync.
The second track, "Crestfallen", uses distorted drums over a six-bar pattern to disorientate the listener... Japanese kotos and vocal harmonies lead the track towards a breakdown, before swirling pianos round off the piece.
The series concludes with the "Synapse Suite", a three-part experiment, which opens with a haunting melody, and dialogue promoting cryogenics. The second segment sees King Moot transform into a jazz outfit, where a fender rhodes piano riffs around conga percussion, frenetic jazz drum solos, foreboding synth pads and double bass. The third segment concludes with a mighty saxophone solo, over a mind-altering time signature which, against all the odds, somehow hangs together.
